Title: SEEING RED

I clicked this at Chatsworth House palace. We went for a visit there and as we reached this room I noticed how the whole place was covered in red and it struck me that my son was wearing red on red too, which had originally irked me, but at this moment it really excited me. I waited for the right moment and just as he was studying the paintings, I clicked this image.

DIPTYCH

Title: WITH THE FLOW

Sometimes I take a creative walk with my camera. Without goal or reason I walk through the streets and let myself drift. On this day I had the urge to photograph yellow things with Slowshutter. The train was on my mind, the woman was a gift. Her flowing hair and the movement of the swan's wings inspired me to create a diptych.

DOCUMENTARY

Title: After School Snack

I like to leave my camera on the kitchen table fully charged so I can document moments with my family when they happen. In this image, I saw my mother and son outside and quickly picked up my camera and went quietly and quickly through the front door to make this photo. I remember waiting for our dog, Marius to walk to the right side of the frame before pressing the button.

Title: Sisters in the kitchen

My 2 daughters were in the kitchen. I was attracted to the juxtaposition of the carefree play of my younger daughter, overshadowed by the steely gaze and subtle tension in the body language of her older sister, providing an insight into her teen angst. I chose to use a slow shutter speed to accentuate the contrast of freedom and tension.

EYE CONTACT

Title: Behind the veil

"This photo was created during a creative shoot with my friend and set stylist, Lindsay Mills. Lindsay and I wanted to create a set with a ton of fabrics in the shades of pink and cream. We used a backdrop stand to hang all the fabrics around our beautiful model, Balat. Then, we came up with the idea of using some of the fabrics in front of the camera. Lindsay was holding the fabric while I was focusing on Balat's eyes. I asked her to look straight at the camera for this shot."

Title: Mismatched

Shot at Brick Bay Wine & Sculpture Trail, Matakana, New Zealand. My son's legs protrude from inside a sculpture of a giant disembodied head. My son was playing inside the structure (the interior of which is a sheepskin and disco light lined grotto). When he started to emerge I repositioned him to create this juxtaposition of the small legs and the colossal head.

GOLDEN HOUR

Title: POWER TOWERS

This wasn't a planned location shot. However, as we came to the last quarter of our hike, I knew the electric towers on the hills would make a great subject with the golden hour so I kept my eyes open for compositional opportunities. I don't enjoy hiking by electric towers, but I have always found them to be an interesting juxtaposition to the natural environment. Also with this image, one can wonder if it is the electric towers powering the sun or is it the sun powering the towers?

MINIMALISM

Title: Swim

"If photography plays an important role in my life, outdoor swimming is my passion. When I moved to Canada in 2018, I chose to live in Oakville to be able to swim in Lake Ontario. It has been the starting point of an incredible adventure mixing cold water swimming, friendship, and photography. Outdoor swimming is an amazing source of inspiration for me as the weather conditions are different each time. The light varies with the season and the time of the day, the water can be glassy one day and add incredible texture to the image another day.
This image was taken in Mississauga (ON, Canada) on September 10th, 2020, on a foggy and grey morning. "If you can find beauty in waking up early to swim in cold grey, we can be friends" did I comment on my Instagram post that day."

Title: Afternoon Dining

As I was catching a bite to eat with my family, the late afternoon sun came through the window of one of our favorite restaurants. I couldn't help but capture the shadow of the restaurant's own logo that was instantly projected on their wall. This image was taken in Mississauga (ON, Canada) on September 10th, 2020, on a foggy and grey morning. MOVEMENT

Title:  RUNNING OUT

"The beautiful dancer in this image is El Zander. The image was taken at the Arizona Science Center during a sunrise session. The image was actually shot as a portrait orientation image. I knew when I was creating the position with him, that I wanted to change the orientation once it was taken. There would be no way to get the movement in his pants if the image was taken in landscape.

The loose concept was the idea of running out of the box."

Title:  NOthING TO SAY

This image is basically parts of me reflected back in four mirrors that I placed together. It is an ongoing exploration of the feelings that I often have about not being whole, being segmented, not being able to show all of me at once, sometimes not even being able to recognise who the whole of myself is.

Title:  catch me if you can

I wanted to capture the boys playing in a fun, whimsical way with a little mystery to reflect the creative nature of their game that involved a ghost and a balloon. I created this image while I was taking a Click Photo School class with Ardelle Neubert, The Mindful Approach.

THE YEAR 2020

Title:  Facing the unknown

This image is of a husband waiting to go into surgery with his wife, who was about to have a cesarean. I too was also dressed in scrubs in the room with him waiting to go into the operating room. I noticed how scared and worried he was, how he was praying and crying and saw this moment. There was a bathroom door there and I had to open it to get further back to take the image.

YOUNG PHOTOGRAPHERS

Title:  Still Life

We were taking a train out in Paris, my oldest sister and I, on a trip to celebrate our recent graduations. With my face pressed to the glass, I was enamored with the blur of life rushing past my window, trying to savor the flashes of peoples’ hometowns and lives I was seeing that looked so different from mine. I wondered what their mundane days might look like, what makes the places speeding past my window home to those who live there. I glanced across the row at my sister, half expecting to see her posture mirror mine, but instead found her as I have seen her countless times before: turning the pages of her favorite newspaper, blissfully content and slightly oblivious to the world around her. A world was whizzing past her, yet she was immersed in one of her own. I smiled sitting there watching her that day on the train, for though life around me in that moment could not have looked more contrary to my home many miles away, that unexpected sight of familiarity will remain frozen in my mind.
